Pier & Beam August Happy Hour / 2026 Future Landmark Celebration

Join Pier & Beam from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, for a special happy hour as we celebrate the announcement of the 2026 Future Landmark Award winner.

Each year, the Future Landmark Award recognizes an outstanding Houston building or place completed within the past decade — a project that combines architectural excellence with a lasting contribution to its neighborhood and to the city. After weeks of nominations and voting by Pier & Beam members, we'll reveal this year's winner during a presentation at 6:45 p.m.

We'll gather in the Carter Boardroom at the JW Marriott Houston Downtown, an extraordinary space that's usually reserved for private meetings and events. Designed in 1929 as the boardroom of the Second National Bank, the room remains remarkably intact, with its original wood paneling, decorative plasterwork and other historic details still in place. The boardroom is part of the former Samuel F. Carter Building, whose award-winning restoration transformed one of downtown's earliest skyscrapers into a modern hotel. The project received both a 2015 Good Brick Award from Preservation Houston and the 2015 Richard H. Driehaus Foundation National Preservation Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
